Yesterday's Monterey Dive Conditions Today

You shoulda been there

Friday the bay went flat and stayed that way. From about 4:10 AM the wind at NDBC 46026 held under 5 kt for 12 hours, a surface this bay rarely hands out. Underneath it, the same buoy watched the swell peak at a 16-second dominant period, long clean energy from weather nobody here saw. No chop. Just a slow, even heave.

NOAA's Monterey gauge, CO-OPS 9413450, ran 0.35 ft above its own week, a quiet surplus with no obvious owner. The days keep shrinking, too: sunset came at 6:13 pm, 64 minutes earlier than at the start of the month.

You totally missed it

That calm is spent. By 8:00 AM PDT the wind was back to 6 kt, and at 7:40 AM PDT the water sat at 56.3 °F, which is today's number and not yours. The National Weather Service calls for a mostly cloudy Saturday near 62 °F with a south wind of 1 to 8 mph, then a 35 percent chance of showers tonight, weather that will get its own page, one day late, same as this one.
